Here’s the latest events upcoming….
On Tuesday, October 12th at 7 pm, an Eating Locally event at the Louisville Nature Center on 3745 Illinois Avenue. Phyillis Fitzgerald will speak on how and the benefits of eating locally. The event is free to LNC Members, while only two bucks for non members.
Friday is 15th day of the month, and the 15thDay occurs then at Fresh Start Growers’ Supply on 1007 E Jefferson Street. The meeting is from 6-8 p.m. Heine Brothers will provide the coffee!!
Saturday brings the weekly Fresh Start Growers’ Supply Community Food Swap also their Growers’ Supply location. Bring homegrown produce and exchange and swap with others with a locally grown mind. All extra food helps will be donated to the Salvation Army. The swap begins in full at 10 a.m.

Here are Louisville’s green events for Sept. 20th to Sept. 26th
The Greater Louisville Sierra Club’s General Meeting will focus on initiatives for using local food in the school system. The two speakers at the meeting will be Sarah Fritschner, former Courier Journal Food Editor and Jill Costin of Jefferson County Public Schools Nutrition Initiatives Coordinator. The meeting on Tuesday, September 21st, 7:00 p.m. at the Clifton Center on 2117 Payne Street.
A field to Fork fundraiser will be held to benefit the Food Literacy Project at Park Place on 401 East Main Street. Food Literacy Project gives Louisville youth to see a farm where sustainable food is grown and meet people involved in sustainable practices.
On the cleanup front, a Beargrass Creek Greenway cleanup will begin at 9am Saturday near Lexington Road at Grinstead Drive. The event is part of National Public Lands Day. Metro Parks, The Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana, and Metro Councilwoman Tina Ward-Pugh are assiting with the event.

Here’s the latest on Green themed events for 9-13 to 9-19:
The US Green Building Council Louisville Chapter is hosting a Lunch and Learn Series Tuesday. Three people from the CPA firm Mountjoy Chilton Medley will talk about the financial benefits of sustainable ideas. The event is from 12-1 at the Office Environment Company and the five dollar admission fee includes lunch.
The Green Convene has an open community meeting at the Clifton Center Tuesday night. Their meetings are to inform of their latest efforts on the sustainable front in Louisville. 7:30 to 9 PM is their meeting time, but feel free to enjoy Heine Brothers coffee at the meeting.

And as we hit the middle of the month, it’s time for the 15th Day event on Wednesday at Fresh Start Growers Supply on 1007 East Jefferson Street. Their goal is to continue a sustainable life for the community mixed with fun. An educational talk will begin at 6:30, but the event is from 6 to 8 pm

This week features a few farmers markets, but first a green alert on environmental crime!
Terry D. Edwards, Associate Professor, Department of Justice Administration/Southern Police Institute at UofL, will make a presentation on environmental crime at the Barn behind Passionist Monastery at 1924 Newburg Road. He’ll discuss trends and topics related to “green” crimes.

Friday marks Foxhollow Farms Farm Fresh Friday features local produce with cooking demonstrations and samples to boot. The “earth friendly farm” invites people out to their Crestwood location with more details and information on their foxhollow.com website about their operations.
A two day native plant sale will occur in nearby Goshen,
, zip code 40026 location. All of the plants available are native to the Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio area.

Transportation and Green, a winning combination as these three events will confirm:
The Coalition for the Advancement of Regional Transportation will hold their annual meeting on Monday August 23rd. Dr. Jerry G. Rose, who is a professor at UK will talk about Advantages of passenger rail transportation and use of same track for freight trains. The meeting is at Mid City Mall in the Highlands Shelby Park Library from 6 to 8 pm.
Friday night is movie night at the Bicycling for Louisville office. Another bike centric movie is on tap as a showing of the Goonies will occur. Park your bike out in the front while the movie plays out back. The office is at 2132 Frankfort Avenue.
On Saturday, the homegrown green theme occurs with a Fresh Start Growers’ Food Swap from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Any extra homegrown produce can be swapped or donated to charity. The event is at Fresh Start Growers’ Supply at 1007 East Jefferson Street.

The highlighted event of this week involves a green theme tied to literature and movies. The Transition Louisville Book Club will host a book club meeting on Tuesday at Cifton Unitatrian on 2231 Payne Street. Each meeting focuses on books and films with a sustainable living theme starting at 7p.m.
Continuing on the Film theme, A FUEL Film screening and discussion workshop at St. Matthews Episcopal Church. The film will focus on oil use and industry in the U.S. with a discussion after. The event is on Saturday, August 21st at 10am. The Cultivating Connections group and the Church’s Green Team are hosting the event with Lunch and drink on your own basis.
Finally on Wednesday August 18th, A 10 am Meeting will be held with Louisville’s Air Pollution Control Board. The board will discuss issues dealing with pollution in front of a public audience at their office at 850 Barret Avenue, Board Room (1st Floor). The Green Convene will discuss the latest on their green efforts on Tuesday night at 7:30. Everyone is invited to bring a friend and enjoy coffee during the discussion. Green Convene will meet at the Clifton Center.
Ever wanted to have a green experience that’s out of this earth
? Well, you can!!! Bicycling for Louisville has a themed movie night with E.T. as the choice. 2132 Frankfort Avenue (Bicycling for Louisville location) is where it will be shown. Feel free to bike to the event!!!
A summit on soil related issues will wrap up the week on Sunday. Will Allen of Growing Power will appear via teleconference, while Gary Heine of 15Thousand Farmers will appear in person during panel discussions. The focus will be on issues soil can give someone who is just starting a garden for making your own food. The event is at the NIA Center at 2900 West Broadway.

The opening week of August brings three more events to promote green ways here in Louisville…
Have you been making excuses about wanting to ride your bicycle but not being able to? Maybe your unsure on proper techniques for riding in traffic? Now is your time to become a SUPERHERO!!!! Well, a bicycle superhero at least!! Learn the basics at Bicycle Superhero Basics hosted at Bicycling for Louisville (2132 Frankfort Avenue) on Saturday from 1:00-4:15 PM.
Maybe your more concerned about the Air Pollution and want to hear what’s being done about it? The strategy committee of the Air Pollution Control Board will convene on Tuesday morning at 9 inside the board’s conference room at 850 Barret Avenue. Among the items discussed will be an amendment to current standards.
And finally, on the sustainability front, it’s the first week of the month, so the first Wednesday meeting of the Louisville Sustainability Forum at 11:30. As always they will discuss ways to discuss make Louisville sustainable and how to bring along those changes. Heine Brothers will have the coffee for the event.

Here’s the latest on this week’s green related events and happenings here in the Ville!!!
Tuesday leads off with another pair of Clearing the Air Seminars. The 11:30 am edition is about Commerical Energy Efficiency with Louisville Gas and Electric having a guest presenter. The 5:30 pm time will have Residential Energy Efficiency. Both meetings are at the Air Pollution Control Board Room at 850 Barret Avenue.
At 6:00 on the same night, bike riders are encouraged to shop along the historic Frankfort Avenue for Two Wheel Tuesdays. Food and drink specials are avaible to the riders at several restuatrants and coffee shops along the road. This is a good way to save the air and save a few bucks at the same time.
On Saturday, save waste and landfill garbage related to food by coming to the Start Growers’ Supply Community Food Swap. The event is a community swap of homegrown produce and bartering is not only allowed but encouraged!! Start Growers Supply is at 1007 East Jefferson Street and the event is from 10 am-12 pm on the last day of July.

Here are three events this week focused on making Louisville greener:
The Greater Louisville Sierra Club will meet on Tuesday at the Clifton Center on 2117 Payne Street. The 7pm meeting will feature guest speaker Bennett Knox, Parks Administrator for the Jefferson Memorial Forest. He will go over the past and present of the Forest and his role to continue green efforts here in town. The event is free.
The Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission wants to keep the river from threatening our green way of life. One of the ways they plan to do this is by reviewing the pollution standards at several hearings/workshops in towns that border the river. Louisville’s edition of the hearing will be Wednesday the 21st at the Galt House Jones Room downtown. Their website at www.orsanco.org can fill you in on their organization along with a large August meeting up in Cincinnati.
And for those looking to learn about identification of plants, Berheim Arboretum and Research Forest will have an event to learn how to identify and cultivate wild mushrooms. People with the Maginificent Mushrooms group will run the show and give you a chance to learn more about an important part of the eco system.
