Green in July

Here are three events this week  focused on making Louisville greener:

The Greater Louisville Sierra Club will meet on Tuesday at the Clifton Center on 2117 Payne Street.  The 7pm meeting will feature guest speaker Bennett Knox, Parks Administrator for the Jefferson Memorial Forest.  He will go over the past and present of the Forest and his role to continue green efforts here in town.  The event is free.

The Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission wants to keep the river from threatening our green way of life.  One of the ways they plan to do this is by reviewing the pollution standards at several hearings/workshops in towns that border the river.  Louisville’s edition of the hearing will be Wednesday the 21st at the Galt House Jones Room downtown. Their website at www.orsanco.org can fill you in on their organization along with a large August meeting up in Cincinnati.

And for those looking to learn about identification of plants, Berheim Arboretum and Research Forest will have an event to learn how to identify and cultivate wild mushrooms.  People with the Maginificent Mushrooms group will run the show and give you a chance to learn more about an important part of the eco system.  If you happen to have Facebook, they have a group on there at http://www.facebook.com/magnificent.mushrooms
